Pioneers Complete Sweep of Mounties

The Alfred State women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Mt. Aloysius on Saturday with a 84-70 win over the Mounties. The Pioneers have won two of their last three contests.

The game went back and forth early on but the Pioneers went on a run in the final four minutes of the 1st quarter to erase a 12-10 deficit and led 25-15 after ten minutes. They added to their lead in the 2nd and took a 44-28 lead into the half. The Mounties didn't go away and cut the lead down to six multiple times in the 3rd and trailed 56-47 after three. MAC trailed 59-55 with 8:08 left but Alfred State scored six straight and never let their opponents within ten the rest of the way.

Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) led the four players in double figures with a double-double. She finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds to go along with six steals. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) added 16 points and six assists, Emily Kelly (Andover) finished with 14, and My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) tied a career best with 11 points on 5 for 7 shooting off the bench.

The Pioneers were 33 for 67 from the floor, 8 for 18 from three, and 10 for 12 from the foul line in the contest.

Carley Stigers led MAC with 21 points while Lea Sammarco and Ryanna Hockenos both finished with 16. The Mounties were 24 for 60 from the floor, 8 for 23 from three, and 14 for 18 at the line.

Alfred State returns to the Orvis Activities Center on Wednesday when they host Penn State Behrend at 8 p.m.
