Pioneers Fall in Tight Clash with Spartans

Alfred State and D'Youville battled in a tight clash but the Spartans were able to come up with the 65-55 victory on Wednesday evening.

DYC led 15-13 after the 1st quarter and then went into half with the same two-point lead 28-26. With 5:01 left in the 3rd the game was knotted up at 36-36 when the Pioneers scored the next four points to grab the lead. They went into the final quarter with a 46-43 lead. The Spartans scored the first eight points of the 4th and never gave back the lead. The Pioneers cut the lead to two twice but the Spartans were able to push the lead out in the final minutes.

A trio of Pioneers finished in double figures led by Emily Kelley (Andover). Kelley finished with 16 on 6 for 15 shooting. Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) had her sixth straight double-double finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds while My'ana Davis (Rochester/Greece Athena) added 13. 

Danielle Hore had a game high 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds and four assists to lead the Spartans. Haley Kirisits had 14 points and 10 boards, Sarah Pfeiffer added 11, and Ashley Schenkel came off the bench and had 10. DYC held a 57 to 36 advantage on the boards (17 to 6 on the offensive glass).

The Pioneers hit the road again on Saturday when they travel to Pitt Greensburg for a 3 p.m. contest.
