Davis Scores 22 Points in Medaille Road Loss

My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) scored a game-high of 22 points in the Alfred State women's basketball 62-53 road loss to the Medaille College Mavericks Monday evening inside the Kevin I. Sullivan Campus Center.

The Pioneers move to 9-8 overall and 6-4 in the AMCC while the Mavericks improve to 9-11 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

Alfred State shot 25.4% in field goals, 50% in three-pointers, 62.5% in free throws and out-rebounded Medaille 52-45.

Davis added nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) chipped in nine points and Calesta Reigelman (Johnson City) had seven points.

Janna Pena (Brooklyn/ACLA) picked up a game-high of 14 rebounds and Maisy Booth (Canisteo Greenwood) had ten.

The Mavericks out-scored the Pioneers 17-8 in the first quarter and 16-11 in the second to head into halftime up 33-19.

Alfred State out-paced Medaille in the second half of the game putting up 34 points to the Maverick's 29.

The Pioneers logged their highest scoring quarter in the third with 18 points and held Medaille to just 10 points.

The Mavericks took their largest lead of 16 points with 5:37 left in the third quarter but Alfred State ended the quarter with a nine-point run to head into the fourth down by six points.

Davis opened the fourth quarter with a jumper to put the Pioneers within four points of the lead and they came within two points with 4:34 left on the clock.

Medaille went on a ten-point run to extend their advantage to ten points with 2:35 remaining and took it to 12 points with 34 seconds left.

Alfred State was able to cut the gap to nine points, but their comeback fell short as the clock ran out.

The women are back on the road Wednesday, Feb. 2 to play Hilbert at 5:30 p.m.
