The Alfred State Women's Basketball team played for the first time since December 17, they hosted the Oswego Lakers and fell 60-40.
At the end of the first half, the Pioneers were down 19-16. Alfred State's defense looked the best it has all season, holding the Lakers to 8-35 shooting and without a three-point make on 12 attempts. The Pioneers shot a tad better than Oswego, making 7 field goals on 23 attempts. Alfred State knocked down 2 three pointers in the first half.
Oswego came out of halftime firing, going 5-7 from three in the third quarter. The 28-point third quarter by the Lakers extended their lead over Alfred State to 17 points.
Calesta Reigelman (Johnson City, NY / Johnson City) was the Pioneers leading scorer with 13 points, she went 3-5 from behind the arc and tallied five rebounds on the game. Faith McCombs (Amityville, NY / Copaigue) was the Pioneer leader on the glass, tallying a game-high nine rebounds.
Karleigh Leo was the Lakers' leading scorer. Leo went 5-14 from the field and 2-8 from deep.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday, January 4. They travel to Penn.- St. Altoona for the first conference game of the season. The game is set to start at 4 p.m.
