Fox and Simons Ready for Nationals

Conner Fox (Midlakes) and Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) have arrived in DesMoines, IA and are ready to compete at the 2013 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships.

Fox is 14-11 with six pins on the season competing in the 174 lb. weight class.  He earned his spot at the National Championships by finishing 2nd at the Region III/Northeast District Championships two weekends ago.

Fox will match-up with Trevor Mahlum from Ridgewater (MN) CC in his first round contest.  The winner will take on Nick Lawrence from Iowa Lakes CC in the second round.  A total of 25 athletes will compete in the bracket.

Simons makes his second trip to the National Championships and will compete in the 32-man 165 lb. bracket.  Simons finished the year 5-14 with four pins and received a wild card selection to the National Championships after a minor injury kept him out of the Region III/Northeast Districts.

Simons will have a familiar foe in his first round match-up as he will face Niagara CCC's Kris Schimek.  Simons and Schimek have wrestled three times already this season.  The winner will face with the winner of the Dominic Sipe (Rochester CTC) and Sheldon Graves (Pratt CC) in the second round.

The double-elimination style tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Richard Jacobson Exhibition Center on the Iowa State Fair Grounds in DesMoines.
