Mongiello Named Athlete of the Week
March 18, 2014
Bryan Mongiello (Washingtonville) has been named the Alfred State athlete of the week after finishing 6th at the NCWA Nationa Championships in the 133 lb. weight class. Mongiello was one of three Pioneers that placed in the three-day event and helped lead the blue & gold to a 12th place finish in the DI standings.

Bryan Mongiello (Washingtonville) led the Alfred State contingent at the NCWA National Championship with a 6th place finish. Tyler Aldinger(Alexander), and Codie Nicholas (Unatego) both finished 8th. As a team, the Pioneers finished 12th in the DI standings and 15th overall out of 80 teams.

The Alfred State wrestling team won the 2014 National Collegiate Wrestling Association Northeast Qualifier Championship on Saturday afternoon at the University of New Hampshire.
Livernash Earns ECWC Academic Honors

Sophomore wrestler Ethan Livernash (Penfield) has been named to the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference All-Academic team. Livernash is one of 24 athletes to be honored.
Nichols Named Athlete of the Week

Alfred State freshman wrestler Codie Nichols (Unatego) has been named the Alfred State athlete of the week. Nichols was 3-0 at the Alfred State duals on Saturday and is now 17-13 on the season.
Dominating Day for Wrestling

The Alfred State wrestling team had a dominating day on the mat as they won 32 of their 33 matches in a perfect 3-0 day at the Alfred Quad Meet. The Pioneers defeated Albany 59-0, Cobleskill 57-6, and Cortland Club 43-0.
Sowers and Caver Share Weekly Honor

Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) and Marcedes Caver (Cleveland, OH) have been selected as the Alfred State athletes of the week. Sowers was 3-0 and won the USCAA Invitational Championship title while Caver scored a career high 39 points in the Lady Pioneers victory over SUNY Canton.

Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) won the 197 lb. championship to lead Alfred State to a 2nd place finish at the 2014 USCAA Invitational Championships. In total 12 wrestlers placed in the top five at the tournament held at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State.

Oswego State won the first four matches of the night and never looked back as the doubled up Alfred State 30-15 on Tuesday evening. Codie Nichols (Unatego), Bradley Haggerty (Wellsville), and Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) earned victories for the blue & gold.
Keough Named Athlete of the Week

Freshman 125 lb. wrestler Austin Keough (Warsaw) has been named the Alfred State athlete of the week. Keough was 2-1 this past week in the Pioneers three dual meets.

RIT won seven matches as they defeated Alfred State 33-12 on Saturday afternoon. Austin Keough (Warsaw), Conner Fox (Midlakes), and Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) picked up victories for the Pioneers.

The Lycoming wrestling team earned their 10th dual match victory of the season with a 44-0 victory over Alfred State on Thursday evening.
Wrestlers Make it Two Straight

The Alfred State wrestling team made it two straight victories with a 35-18 victory over Penn College on Tuesday evening. The Pioneers scored 26 consecutive points to take control of the match.
Pins Lead Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State wrestling team earned four pins en route to a 37-21 victory over Penn State DuBois in their home opener. The Pioneers victory was the first for the program since the college's move to Division III of the NCAA.
