Pioneers Win NCWA Northeast Qualifier

The Alfred State wrestling team won the 2014 National Collegiate Wrestling Association Northeast Qualifier Championship on Saturday afternoon at the University of New Hampshire. Eleven Pioneers qualified for the NCWA National Championship with top six finishes.

Kevin Thayer (Unatego) and Codie Nichols (Unatego) each claimed individual titles at 149 lbs. and 157 lbs. respectively.

125 lb. Austin Keough (Warsaw), 141 lb. Tyler Aldinger (Alexander), 235 lb. Alex Ortiz (Middletown), and heavyweight Dan Ognibene (Alexader) finished in 2nd.  Konner Kremmer (Horseheads) finished 3rd at 165.

133 lb. Bryan Mongiello (Washingtonville),174 lb.  Josh Lord (Owego Free), 184 lb. Conner Fox (Midlakes), and 197 lb. Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) all finished 6th.

The blue & gold finished ahead of 2nd place Navy Prep followed by MIT, and Army Prep.

The NCWA Championships held at Allen Event Center in Allen, TX begin on March 13 and run until March 15.
