Kremer and Thierman Lead Pioneers at RIT

Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) and Ryan Thierman (Portville) led the Alfred State wrestling team to a 11th place finish at the RIT Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers scored 60.5 points on the day.

In the 157 lb. weight class Kremer earned 4th place. He started day with a pin of Tom Marrone (Oneonta) in 5:36. He advanced to the semifinals with a 10-0 win over Ryan Rigney (Worcester Polytechnic Institute). He fell 5-0 in the semifinals but bounced back with a 8-4 decision over Kirk Feeney (RIT) to advance to the 3rd place match. In the 3rd place match he fell 8-2 and to finish the day earning 13.5 points and a 3-2 record.

Thierman earned a 5th place finish at 125 lbs. He won 19-0 over Ricky Lindsey (Oswego) and then defeated Jake Thomson (Scranton) 16-0 to start the day. He then won a 8-0 decision over Dominic Percell (Washington & Jefferson) to move into the semifinals. In the semis he lost a hard fought 5-3 decision. In the consolation bracket he fell in the consolation semis but won the 5th place match over Justin Walter (Thiel). He earned a team high 15 points on the day and was 4-2.

Michael Boyle (Cooperston) was 2-2 at 125 lbs with pin of Luke DiMuzio (Case Western) and Dominic DeGraba (Oneonta). Blake Engebretsen (Central Square) was 2-2 at 165 lbs. He pinned Juan Arcila (Scranton) and Brady O'Leary (Norwich) in consolation matches. John Lauretti (Seaford) was 2-2 at 197 lbs. He won 11-3 over Bryan Giblin (Norwich) and later defeated Satchel Stauffer (Norwich) 14-10 in a consolation match.

John Carroll won the team title with 146 points.

The Pioneers open up the home portion of their season on Tuesday when they host Niagara CCC at 6 p.m.
