Pioneers Battle Tough vs. Lycoming
The Alfred State wrestling team battled Lycoming tough but couldn't overcome two forfeits in a 26-19 loss on Thursday evening. The Pioneers won four of the seven matches wrestled.
The Pioneers opened up the night with victories in each of the first three bouts. Michael Boyle (Cooperstown) defeated Will Newmiller 6-4 at 125, Ryan Thierman (Portville) earned a 3-2 victory at 133, and Austin Parker (Port Byron) earned a forfeit victory at 141.
The Warriors bounced back with a pin at 149 by Seth Lansberry, a forfeit victory at 157 for Matt Neff, a 19-2 victory for Nolan Barger at 165, and 3-0 decision for Brandon Conrad at 174.
Brad Haggerty (Wellsville) won a tight 9-6 match over Brandon Rudy at 184 to get the Pioneers back on the board. Sylar Ebner took a forfeit victory at 197 before Riley Andews (York) earned a 9-1 major decision over Loc Long to close the night.
The Pioneers are back at it on Sunday when they head to the Wilkes Quad. They will wrestle Wilkes at 11 a.m., West Virginia Tech at 12:30 p.m., and Oneonta at 2 p.m.
