Pioneers Down Wildcats on the Mat

The Alfred State wrestling team improved to 4-3 in dual matches with a 35-13 victory over Penn College on Monday evening.

Ben Doll gave the Wildcats an early 4-0 lead in the 125 lb. match. After a no match at 133 lbs. Dan Hosking (Tioga Center) gave the Pioneers lead when he pinned Zach Fitzsimmons in 10 seconds. Gordon Trahan (Canajoharie) earned a forfeit win at 149 while Joe Swank earned a forfeit win for Penn College at 157.

The Pioneers added to their lead with four straight wins. Tristan Almeter (Iroquois) won 16-1 over Brent Troutman, Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) won via forfeit, George Van Valen (Ithaca) pinned Malcolm Kane in 1:54, and Brandyn Whitacre (Jamestown) won by forfeit at 197.

In the most competitive match of the day, Dylan Otis won a 5-4 battle over Jeff Andrews in the heavyweight bout.

The Pioneers travel to Lynchburg, VA (Liberty University) this weekend to compete at NCWA Duals. Action is slated to begin on Friday.
