Wrestlers Finish 11th at John Summa Invitational

George Van Valen (Ithaca) led the Alfred State wrestling team as they competed at the John Summa Invitational at Baldwin Wallace. Van Valen finished 2nd in the 184 lb. weight class.

Van Valen was dominant in his first three matches to reach the finals. He pinned Frank Russel (Wabash) in 41 seconds, earned a 16-0 tech fall over Avery Jones (Thomas More) , and then shutout Zeckary Lehman (Baldwin Wallace) 4-0. Van Valen was defeated by Jordan Bushey in the championship match.

Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) finished the day was 3-2 in the 174 lb. weight class. After falling in sudden victory 12-10 in his opening round, Kremer rattled off three straight wins. He pinned Tyler Sims (Thiel) in 3:38, earned a tech fall 17-1 over Teddy Fleming (Brockport), and a 9-6 win over Vinnie Darpino (Oswego). His day ended in the 5th round of the consolation bracket.

Mitchell Lattuca (Lancaster) also picked up three victories in the heavyweight bracket. He pinned Hamilton Young (Thomas Moore) in 5:58 in his opening match but fell in his next match. He rebounded with a 5-2 victory over Andrew Hoskinson (Lourdes) and a 2-1 decision over David Ainscough (Thiel) before having his day ended in the consolation 4th round.

Wabash won the team competition. The Pioneers scored 34.5 points on the day.

Alfred State is back at it on Wednesday when they travel to Lycoming for a 7 p.m. match with the Warriors.
