Galton Wins a Pair as Pioneers Compete in Home Tri-Match

Mike Galton (Warsaw) won a pair of matches as Alfred State took on Brockport and Pitt Bradford in a Tuesday evening tri-match. The Pioneers were tripped up 43-6 by Brockport and lost a tight 27-16 decision to Pitt-Bradford.

Galton was won of two winners in the match vs. Brockport. He earned a tight 3-2 decision over Zack Brown in the 157 lb. bout. Ryan Mattison (Brockport) capped the match with a 5-3 decision over Calik Kennedy at heavyweight.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers and Panthers traded forfeits over the first three matches. Jesse Pitoni (Churchville Chili) got the forfeit victory at 125 before Bradford took the 12-6 lead after Pioneer forfeits at 133 and 141. Neither team sent out wrestlers at 149 and 157 setting up a 20-3 tech fall victory for Galton at 165 to make it 12-11. Bradford earned the decision victory at 174 but Tristan Almeter (Elma/Iroquois) gave the Pioneers a 16-15 lead with a 16-0 tech fall over Quentin Ellis at 184. The Panthers took the match with a pair of pins at 197 and heavyweight.

In the opening match, Brockport defeated Pitt-Bradford 50-0.

Prior to their second match of the evening, the Alfred State coaching staff honored a trio of Pioneers, Devin Horton (Owego Free), Mitchell Lattuca (Lancaster), and Mattison, that will graduate the spring. 

The Pioneers head to Jamestown CC on Sunday to compete in the Jayhawk Open. Action is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
