Pioneers Win Three at Electric City Duals

The Alfred State wrestling team won three matches at the Electric City Duals on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers finished 3-2 on the day. They defeated Lackawanna 42-15, Keystone 32-16, and Scranton B 45-3 and fell 26-15 to Oneonta and 24-19 to Scranton.

Oneonta 26 Alfred State 15

The Pioneers picked up three victories. Sean Peterson (Islip) and Justin Smith (Marcus Whitman) earned pins while Mike Galton (Warsaw) won by tech fall.

Alfred State 42 Lacawanna 15

Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood) earned a pin while six other Pioneers won via forfeit.

Alfred State 45 Scranton B 3

The Pioneers recorded six pins in the victory. Peterson led the way with a pin in 15 seconds while Dawsen Yates (Bolivar Richburg), Ryan Nugent (Newfane), Sean Malenfant (Averill Park), and Galton earned pins.

Scranton 24 Alfred State 19

Yates highlighted the match with a victory over the #2 ranked wrestler in the Mideast Regin. Smith and Malenfant earned victories via pin and Ilges earned a major decision victory.

Alfred State 32 Alfred State 16

Peterson, Malenfant and Galton earned pins as the Pioneers wrapped up the day with a victory. Jaden Hansen (Newburgh Free) and Ilges earned major decision victories.

Smith finished the day 4-0 with two pins while Peterson, Galton, Ilges, and Yates were all 4-1. Malenfant was 3-1 with three pins, Nugent was 2-0 with two pins, and Hansen was 2-1.

The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday when they compete in the NYS Championships. The tournament will be held at Cortland starting at 9 a.m.
