Alfred State Crowns Three Champs at Adrian Invite

The Alfred State Wrestling team opened their season at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan. The Pioneers had ten place winners, eight of them finished in the top five and three were individual champions.

The individual champions were Elijah Moshenek (Ringgold, VA / Dan River), Sean Malenfant (Averill Park, NY / Averill Park) and Evan Albrecht (Patchogue, NY / Patchogue-Medford). 

Moshenek (133) went 4-0 with two wins by fall and two wins by decision. In the championship match he won on a decision over Brendon Ramsey out of Jamestown Community College. 

Malenfant (184) went 4-0 and won his first three matches by fall. In the championship match, he won by decision against Kiernan Sherwood out of Campbellsville.

Albrecht (285) went 4-0 and won his first two matches by fall. In the semi-final Albrecht won in sudden victory. In the championship match Albrecht won in a tiebreaker over Joel Hatchett out of Campbellsville. 

The other top five finishers for Alfred State were Ben Lloyd (Alfred, NY / Alfred-Almond), Anthony Miraglia (Byron, NY / Byron Bergen) Sean Peterson (Islip, NY / Islip), Justin Smith (Rushville, NY / Marcus Whitman) and Travis Kauffman (Attica, NY / Attica). 

Lloyd (141) went 3-2 and placed fifth.  He won all three of his matches by decision, his best was over Landon Neal from Averett University, where he won by major decision.

Miraglia (149) went 4-2 with a sudden victory in his first match. Miraglia placed 4 overall on the day.  He won by decision in two of his matches. Miraglia forced overtime against a 141lb wrestler who was ranked 8th in the country in the NWCA preseason rankings.

Peterson (141) went 4-1 and placed third overall. Peterson won his first match he won by major decision. He advanced on from the quarterfinal with a win by fall and lost by decision in the semi-final. Peterson followed it up by winning the third-place bout by major decision.

Smith (157) went 3-1 and placed second overall. His first match was won by decision. Smith's quarterfinal match was won by fall and he notched a spot in the final with a win by major decision. He fell in the championship match though, placing second overall.

Kauffman (165) went 3-2 and placed fifth overall. He won a match by decision, by medical forfeit and by fall throughout the day. 

The Pioneers return to action for their first dual meet of the season at Elmira College on Wednesday, November 9th at 7pm.
