Pioneers Win on Senior Day
The Alfred State Wrestling team hosted Elmira and won 48-6. The Pioneers had three matches in the dual, and two exhibitions. Winning all other bouts by forfeit.
The Pioneers honored their seniors before the match. Anthony Miraglia (Byron, NY Byron Bergen), Cale Bartosch (Palmyra, NY Palmyra Macedon ) and Blake Ilges (Canisteo, NY / Canisteo Greenwood) have all been pivotal in the growth of the Alfred State Wrestling program. All three seniors are projected to be 1 seeds in the first ever AMCC Championships.
The match began with a 165 lb bout between Cale Bartosch and Hollis Berry for Elmira. Hollis won by decision 11-6.Sean Malenfant was the next bout without forfeit. At 184 lb, Malenfant faced off against Bryan Stafford and won by pinfall. Nick Barrett then faced off in the heavyweight bout against Darius Green and fell 5-4.
The two exhibition bouts were won by the Pioneers. Johnny Layfield and Anthony Miraglia both won by decision.
The Pioneers wrestle again tomorrow at the JCC Open and then again next Saturday at the John Summa Invitational.
The Alfred State Men's Track and Field team competed both yesterday and today in the Utica Invitational.
