Alfred State Wrestling Sweeps Postseason Awards

The AMCC Conference office released the postseason awards for the 2022-2023 AMCC season. The Pioneers swept the Wrestler of the year, Newcomer of the year and Coach of the year honors.

Sophomore Sean Malenfant has been named the 2023 AMCC Wrestler of the Year. Malenfant was the AMCC Individual Champion in the 184 weight class while also leading the Pioneers to the AMCC team title. He was a three-time AMCC wrestler of the week with an overall record of 34-3 on the season. He set a new Alfred State single season pin record with 23 wins by pin. He is currently ranked 13th in the nation by the NWCA. Malenfant was the NY Collegiate State Tournament individual champion, the Adrian Invitational tournament individual champion, and earned an individual runner-up finish in the John Summa Tournament. He finished in third place in the RIT Invitational and the ECWC Tournament. Malenfant is a NWCA Scholar All-American candidate. 

Alfred State freshman Dom Vinci has been tabbed the AMCC Newcomer of the Year. Vinci was the AMCC Individual Champion in the 149 weight class, helping the Pioneers to the AMCC team title. He was named AMCC Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 16. Vinci put together a 23-8 season record, after starting out 5-4 at winter break. He earned 11 wins by pin and recorded three major decions. He was undefeated against AMCC opponents across 141 and 149 lbs. He was the NY Collegiate State tournament individual runner-up, he finished in third place at the John Summa Tournament, fourth place at the JCC Open tournament, and fourth place at the Adrian Invitational tournament. Vinci was named an NWCA Scholar All-American candidate with a 3.5 GPA.

Head coach Justin Signorelli is the AMCC Coach of the Year. Signorelli led the Pioneers to a 3-0 sweep of the AMCC quad match in January, along with leading Alfred State to the team title of the Inaugural AMCC Wrestling Championship. Signorelli has also lead the Pioneers to their best dual record in their short NCAA history.
