Three Pioneers Advance To Day Two Of Regionals

Rochester, NY- The Alfred State men's wrestling team has three advance to day two of the NCAA Regional Mideast Championship. Zach Levey and Sean Malenfant (184) are in the hunt for first place, while Blake Ilges (197) in looking for a third-place finish.

After a first-round bye, Levey notched a second period fall in 4:15 over Alex Burroughs (Brockport) to advance to the quarterfinals. Then in the quarterfinals, Levey tallied a third period fall over Derek Bernardino (St John Fisher) to earn a spot in the semifinals.

Malenfant notched three falls to advance to tomorrow's semifinals. In the first match, he got a 4:05 fall over Derrick DeMann of Keystone. He followed with a 58 second fall over Casey Cooper of Elmira. In his final match of the day, Malenfant notched a 4:00 fall over Robert Cunningham of Cortland to move on to day two.

In the bloodrounds, Ilges is still alive after going 2-1 on the day. After a decision loss, Ilges tallied a 5:41 fall over Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni (Penn College). Then in his final match of the day, he notched an 18-7 major decision over Paul Parise of Muhlenberg to move on to day two.
