Bio

Colin Johnson returns as the program's Head Assistant Coach for the 2023-24 season. This will be his third season serving in this position. During his second season Johnson helped guide the program to its first AMCC Championship, eight wrestlers to individual AMCC titles and two others to NCAA Region Place Winner honors. 

During his first season working with the program Alfred State earned their first two NCAA Region Place Winners in program history.  

Johnson has spent the past three summers down south playing professional baseball. Johnson currently plays for the Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos League and was named to the All-Star Team during his 2023 campaign.  

Johnson is no stranger to Alfred State College and its Athletic Department, as this will be his 8th consecutive year being on campus. Johnson has also worked for Alfred State as an Assistant Coach for the Baseball program during their 2021 and 2022 seasons where they reached the AMCC Semi-Finals in both seasons. 

Prior to working with the Baseball program as a coach, Johnson was a four-year team member for the Pioneers playing primarily as a Catcher. Johnson had a career .323 batting average, racked up over 100 career hits, 42 of which were extra base hits including double digit numbers in home runs. Johnson earned two associate degrees in Welding Technology and Masonry in 2018 and 2020 respectively during his playing career and is currently pursuing his bachelor degree in Technology Management from Alfred State.  

Prior to attending Alfred State, Johnson attended Alfred-Almond High School where was a standout three sport athlete participating in soccer, wrestling and baseball. On the wrestling mats Johnson was a 4X Section V Class place winner and twice placed at the Section V State Qualifying Super Sectional Championships for the Eagles. Johnson racked up 156 career wins including going 82-17 over his final two seasons. Johnson graduated from Alfred-Almond in 2015.
