Two Quick 2nd Half Goals Lift Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the first 1:04 of the 2nd half as they ran their unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-0 victory over SUNY ESF. The Pioneers are now 6-2-2 on the year.

After a scoreless 1st half that featured a hour weather delay, the Pioneers took control of the game with a pair of quick strikes. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) scored just 23 seconds into the half after getting a pass from Melissa Mineti (Livonia). Carissa Pompa (Rochester/Mercy) scored 39 seconds later when she found the top shelf after getting a pass from Mackenzie Congdon (Hornell). Abby King (Holland) added an insurance goal 4:09 remaining.

Alfred State held a 19 to 2 shot advantage in the contest. Madison Papaj (Holley) made two saves to record the shutout while Renee Perrotte made eight saves for the Mighty Oaks.

The blue & gold defense in front of Papaj has now recorded three straight shutouts and has five on the season.

The Pioneers are back in action on Sunday when they host LaRoche at 1 p.m.
