Women's Soccer Earns #2 Seed for ACAA Tournament

Alfred State Earns #2 Seed for ACAA Championships

The Alfred State women's soccer team has earned the #2 seed in the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Tournament to be held November 3rd-4th at Finlandia University in Hancock, MI.

#2 Alfred State (8-2-2) will tangle with #3 SUNY Delhi (9-1) at 1 p.m. on Saturday (11/3). That match will take place following #1 Thomas More (4-10-1) battling #4 Finlandia (11-1-1) at 10 a.m. The ACAA Championship match will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday (11/4). All matches will be played at McAfee Stadium.

Alfred State is currently riding a five-game winning streak and a seven-game unbeaten streak. The match vs. SUNY Delhi will be a rematch from a contest that took place during the first weekend of the season. In that contest the Broncos jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 victory.

Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) leads the Pioneers offense with 10 goals and 22 points on the season while Carissa Pompa (Rochester/Mercy) has six goals. Melissa Mineti (Livonia) has a team high five helpers. Freshman Madison Papaj (Holley) has been stellar in net. She has played just over 900 minutes and is 7-2-2 with a 1.20 goals against average and 43 saves. In front of her, Allison VanScoter (Arkport) and Brooke Scianna (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) have been key cogs of the defensive unit.

Alfred State is the defending ACAA Champion. Last year they defeated SUNY Canton 2-0 in the championship match.

As approved by the member institutions, due to our geographic footprint the ACAA utilizes the Massey Ratings (masseyratings.com) published weekly for qualification and seeding into the postseason ACAA Championships in each sport except Cross Country. The host institution also receives an auto qualification, and if the host is not in the top four in the Bennett Rank on the deadline date for the Fall (Monday, October 15th) after Massey Ratings has updated them for the prior week they will automatically be assigned the #4 seed slot in place of the Massey Ratings #4-ranked team. The two-week minimum qualifying date was set so teams could make travel arrangements that insure they have a minimum of two weeks advance notice of travel before the Championship.

Here is a look at the Massey Ratings information:
