Pioneers Roll Past Buffalo State

The Alfred State women's swimming & diving team rolled to their second straight dual meet victory on Saturday. The Pioneers defeated Buffalo State 187-105 in their home opener.

The Pioneers started off fast with five victories in the first five events. The 200 medley relay team of Julia Urbina (Nesconset/Smithtown East), Hannah Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer), Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury), Elizabeth Furmanski (Albion) won in 2:06.73, Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield) followed with a victory in the 1650 free (20:28.55), Jessie LaRue (Livonia) won the 200 free (2:07.57), Urbina won the 100 back (1:13.01), and Lewis won the 100 breast (1:19.84).

LaRue completed the triple victory meet with wins in the 50 free (26.41) and the 100 free (57.96). Lewis picked up another victory in the 500 free (5:50.51) to complete her three victory afternoon and the 200 free relay team of LaRue, Lewis, Elizabeth Drake (Lansing), and Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) won in 1:49.70.

Samantha Towner (Wayland Cohocton) was 2nd in the 100 back (1:16.11) and 2nd in the 200 back (2:40.66), Snayczuk was 2nd in the 100 breast (1:20.16), Kelsey Lynch (Wellsville) was 2nd in the 200 fly (2:52.53), Sarah Stevens was 2nd in the 200 breast (2:55.67), Armstrong was 2nd in the 100 fly (1:11.38), and Furmanski was 2nd in the 200 IM (2:46.27)

On the diving board, Sarah Stevens was 2nd in the 1m competition (169.70) and the 3m competition (182.85). 

The blue & gold hit the road next Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest with Oswego.
