Pioneers Look to Contend for AMCC Title

The Alfred State women's swimming & diving team is looking to contend for the AMCC title this week as they compete in the Championships that begin today at Penn State Behrend.

The Pioneers were 4-0 in AMCC meets during the regular season and 6-2 overall. They won the team titles at the Erie CC and the Pioneer Invitational. Key to success throughout the season was team depth.

Jessie LaRue (Livonia) has had an impressive first season with the Pioneers. She enters the Championships ranked 1st in the 200 IM (2:17.76), 1st in the 200 back (2:14.6), 2nd in the 100 back (1:03.64), 2nd in the 100 free (56.08), 3rd in the 50 free (25.76), 3rd in the 400 IM (5:15.68), and 3rd in the 200 free (2:02.97).

Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield), Sarah Stevens (Wellsville), Elizabeth Drake (Lansing), and Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) will also be top point-getters. 

• Lewis is ranked 2nd in the 500 free (5:33.48), 2nd in the 1650 free (19:35.47), and 4th in the 200 free (2:03.38).
• Stevens is top ranked in the 1m (304.50) and 3m (282.65) diving competitions. She is also ranked 4th in the 400 IM (5:28.92) and 4th in the 200 breast (2:49.99).
• Drake is ranked 2nd in the 100 free (58.63), 5th in the 50 free (26.66), and 6th in the 200 free (2:08.57).
• Armstrong is ranked 5th in the 100 fly (1:09.41), 6th in the 200 fly (2:54.73), 8th in the 50 free (27.54), 8th in the 100 back (1:13.29), and 8th in the 200 back (2:41.28).

Action starts on Wednesday (2/13) at 1 p.m. with the first session of diving. Swimming events begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday features 10 a.m. preliminaries, 1 p.m. diving, and 6 p.m. finals. The AMCC Champion and year end awards will be announced on Saturday evening following the last event.
