LaRue Wins 200 IM to Highlight Day 2

Jessie LaRue (Livonia) led the way on day two of the AMCC Championships as the Alfred State women's swimming and diving team sits in 2nd. The Pioneers have scored 207 points thus far in the four-day event.

LaRue won the 200 IM in 2:14.66. In the finals she shaved off 2.34 seconds from her time in the prelims. She was also part of the 2nd place 200 free relay team that finished in 1:45.87. In that race she teamed with Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield), Elizabeth Drake (Lansing), and Sarah Stevens (Wellsville). 

Other top performances included:

  • Lewis was 2nd in the 500 free finishing in 5:23.05. She was over five seconds faster in the final than in the prelims.
  • Megan Hendershot (Brockport) was 6th in 500 free (5:45.16).
  • Elizabeth Furmanski (Albion) was 6th in the 200 IM (2:37.34) and Grace Feely (Middletown) was 7th (2:42.44).
  • Drake was 8th in the 50 free (26.90).

The hosts Penn State Behrend lead with 264 points followed by Alfred State. Franciscan is 3rd (102), Penn State Altoona 4th (62), and SUNY Delhi 5th (2).

Day three action begins at 10 a.m. with preliminaries followed by diving at 1 p.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
