Relays Shine on Day One of Oberlin Invitational

The Alfred State swimming relay teams took center stage on day one of the Oberlin Invitational.

The men's 800 free relay team of Matt Walker (Kenmore West), Austin Eckrich (Churchville Chili), Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA), and Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) finished 5th in 7:20.11 to establish a new NCAA record. Walker also established a new record in the 200 free with his leg of the relay (1:48.07). In the 200 medley relay, Perry, Dale, Nate Miller (Gananda), and Walker finished 6th in 1:38.59 to establish a new top mark during the NCAA era.

The 200 medley relay team of Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury), Mikaela Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer), Kelsey Lynch (Wellsville), and Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) finished 9th in 2:01.24. The 800 free relay team of Snayczuk, Alina Kisluk (Hamburg), Armstrong and Stevens also finished 9th in 8:38.83.

The men's team sits in 8th place out of 12 with 98 points after day one while the women are 9th with 80 points.

Day two action of the Oberlin Invitational begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow with preliminaries followed by finals at 6 p.m.
