Volleyball Wraps Up Day One at Lycoming

The Alfred State volleyball team fell in a pair of matches at the Lycoming Tournament on Friday evening. The Pioneers fell to the hosts 3-1 and then were downed 3-0 by Misericordia.

Lycoming took the first set of the day 25-11 but the Pioneers bounced back to even up the match with a 25-16 victory. In the pivotal third set, the Warriors rallied for a 25-22 victory and then sealed the win with a 25-18 victroy in set four.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) led the team with 12 kills while Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) had 11 kills and 16 digs. Samantha Tumolo (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) passed out 20 assists and Valerie Intini (Rochester/Eastridge) finished with 14 digs.

In the nightcap, the Cougars took a tight 26-24 decision in the first set and the downed the Pioneers 25-17, 25-18 to earn the sweep. Morgan Hungerford (Lyndonville) led the team with six kills while Perkins had five. Tumolo passed out 11 assists and Intini led the way with 14 digs.

The Pioneers continue play at Lycoming on Saturday with a pair of matches. The battle SUNY Canton at 10 a.m. and Penn State Behrend at 2 p.m.
