Spikers Fall in Back and Forth Match at Keuka

The Alfred State volleyball team fell in a tight back and forth match at Keuka on Friday night. The Wolves earned a 25-19, 25-23, 25-17.

In the opening set, the Pioneers jumped out to an early lead but the Wolves scored seven straight points to erase a 9-6 deficit and grab a 13-9 lead. The blue & gold cut the Keuka lead to 17-15 but could not get any closer. In the 2nd set, Alfred State led 15-9 and 19-15 before Keuka went on another run. Six straight points gave the Wolves the lead. Alfred State tied it at 22-22 but Keuka scored three of the final four points to take the set 25-23. Keuka scored the first eight points of the 3rd set and the Pioneers tried to battle back the rest of the game. Alfred State cut the lead to four, 20-16, but couldn't get any closer.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) led Alfred State with seven kills, Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 17 assists and had three aces, and Madison Webster (Corning) chipped in a team high nine digs. The Pioneers were slowed down by a -.027 hitting percentage and 11 service errors.

Lauren Moelbert led the Wolves with nine kills, Alyssa Rex passed out 13 assists, and Lauren Kulpers led the way with eight digs. Keuka hit .211 in the contest.

The Pioneers return to Keuka tomorrow for day two of the invitational. Alfred State takes on Hartwick at 11 a.m. and Hilbert at 1 p.m.
