Spikers Serve Way to Sweep at Valley Forge

The Alfred State volleyball team swept a pair of matches at the Valley Forge tri-match on Saturday afternoon. They improved to 6-4 on the season with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-20 victory over the hosts and then defeated Rosemont College 26-24, 25-9, 25-20.

15 service aces were key for Alfred State in their sweep of Valley Forge in a match that featured runs by each team. Mya VanDuyne (Newark) and Alyssa Martin (Portville) both collected four service aces. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) had 11 kills, Madison Webster (Corning) collected 16 digs and six kills, and Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 24 assist and had six digs.

Megan Freed had five kills and 13 digs for the Patriots while Kaitlyn Hess passed out 11 assists.

Versus Rosemont, the blue & gold collected 15 more service aces. Perkins led the team with nine kills while Webster finished with eight kills and 11 digs. Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) had 10 digs and four service aces, Raichlin passed out 26 assists, and VanDuyne chipped in seven kills.

Abigail Brooks led the Ravens with six kills, Alyssa Springer passed out 12 assists, and Holly Brady collected 10 digs.

The Pioneers head to Houghton next Saturday for a tri-match. They take on LaRoche at 1 p.m. and Houghton at 3 p.m.
