Pioneers Fall in Tight Battle at La Roche

The Alfred State volleyball team lost a tight 24-26, 24-26, 18-25 battle at La Roche on Saturday. 

La Roche led 18-13 in the first set but the Pioneers fought back to tie the match at 22-22. The Redhawks took the next two points before Alfred State tied it at 24-24. La Roche came up with a block to take a one point advantage and won the set with an ace. The Red Hawks raced out to a 10-3 lead in set two and led 19-13 before the Pioneers rattled off seven straight points to take a 20-19 lead. ASC led 24-23 before LRC scored the final three points to take the set. In the final set, the Redhawks broke open a close match by winning nine out of 13 points to expand on their 11-10 lead. 

Alyssa Fox (Letchworth) led the Pioneers with 15 kills and eight digs. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport) chipped in nine kills, Jordan McCooey (Horsheads) had 25 assists, and Megan Gridley (Corning Painted Post) finished with a team high 11 digs.

Ingrid Spear and Mackenzie Jeric each had seven kills for La Roche. Bailey McDonald passed out 15 assists and Erin Connor led the team with 13 digs.

The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday when they head to Medaille for another AMCC contest.
