Volleyball Starts Weekend Strong

The Alfred State Women's Volleyball team traveled to SUNY Canton today, for three games scheduled to be played this weekend. The first match was set for today at 5 p.m. against conference rival Hilbert College.

After dropping the first set 16-25 the Pioneers stormed back with three straight commanding wins to defeat Hilbert in their first meeting this year. The team won the second set 25-14, the third 25-20, and the last 25-22.

Three Pioneers had double digit kills, Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD/ High Point) led the way with 12, Faith McCombs (Amityville, NY/ Copiague) was right behind her with 11, and Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie, NY/ Schoharie) had ten kills in the match.

Gregory led the way defensively up-front totaling four blocks in the match. Gerstenberger tallied four service aces in the match, and a team high 15 digs, leading the Pioneers in a strong victory.

The team is back in action tomorrow, with a 10 a.m. game against Pratt and 2 p.m. match against Wells on the docket.
