Pioneer Volleyball Sweeps Day

The Alfred State Volleyball team won against both teams in the tri-match between Alfred University and Medaille University.    

The Pioneers began their day very strong, beating Alfred University 3-0. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago (San Juan, PR) led the team with 23 assists while Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie, NY) added 10 kills and 14 digs. Adeline Milligan also had 14 digs to go with her 4 assists. The first set was won 25-10, Alfred State won the second set 25-18 . And dominated the third set, winning 25-9. 

In the second match of the day, Medaille gave the Pioneers their first loss of a set on the day, 24-26. However, it did not take long for Alfred State to take commanding wins in the next three sets, winning 25-14, 25-10, and 25-13 to seal the victory over Medaille.  

Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD) led the Pioneers in the second game with 15 kills and 5 blocks while Gerstenberger added to her successful day with a double-double, by contributing 14 kills and 16 digs. Ferrer-Santiago had 42 assists as well as 16 digs.  

The Pioneers had their best performance of the season, just in time for conference play. 

The team begins conference play on October 8th against Pitt-Greensburg. The games will be played at the Orvis Activites Center at 11:00am and 1:00pm.
