Pioneers Win Tenth Straight

The Pioneer Volleyball team won 3-2 in a hard-fought match against conference rival Pitt.- Bradford. The Alfred State team has won ten straight matches, and this is their first five-set win of the season. Before tonight, the Pioneers have been dominant, dropping only two sets since September 21.

After winning the first two sets 25-19 and 25-17, Alfred State lost the next set 25-19 and the fourth set 26-24, pushing the match to a pivotal fifth set. The final set was tied at five when the Pioneers put together four straight points to take the lead 9-5. They didn't look back, winning the set 15-11.

A total team effort for Alfred State kept their winning streak alive. Karleigh Haines (Jamestown, NY/ Jamestown) was the kill leader with 17. Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD / High Point) had 16 kills of her own. Three Pioneers had double digit digs, Nayomie Ferrer Santiago (San Juan, PR/ Eastridge) led the way with 22, Adeline Milligan (Pavilion, NY / Pavilion) had 18 and Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie, NY/ Schoharie) had 11.

The Pioneers play again on Homecoming this Saturday October 22, in a tri-match with La Roche and Medaille. The matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.

 The final match of the day, set for 5 p.m. against Medaille, will be the Pioneers senior day.
