Perkins and Bathgate Named Athletes of the Week
The Alfred State athletic department has named senior volleyball player Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) and sophomore cross country runner Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) the first Athletes of the Week for the 2021-22 academic year.
Perkins was key as the Pioneers opened up the season with three straight victories. For the week, she recorded a team high 30 kills, 15 service aces, and 15 digs.
- Versus Wells: Eight kills and seven aces
- Versus Cazenovia: 13 kills, three aces, and six digs
- Versus Houghton: Nine kills, five aces, and five digs
Bathgate started the 2021 season the same win he ended last year by winning the individual title at meet. At the season opening Daniel Walker Invitational, Bathgate won the individual title by finishing the 5k course at Beaver Island State Park in 16:38.07. He average mile was 5:21.3 and he finished just over eight seconds ahead of second place. Bathgate helped his team to a 2nd place finish in the team results.
In the only race of the 2020-21 athletic year, Bathgate won the AMCC Championship in March. He crossed the finish line of the 5k course in Pittsburgh, PA in 18:29.06.
