Division 3 Week Q&A with Falyn Lewis-Ellison

As a part of the 2022 Division III Week from April 4-10, Alfred State Athletics will be unveiling a Q&A to highlight with some Pioneers who embody the ideals of a Division III student-athlete. 

1. Why Did You Chose Alfred State/Division III?

I chose Alfred state because it was close to home and I wanted a place that I would be able to get a full experience without sacrificing time with my family as well.

2. How does being a Division III student-athlete better prepare you in life?

I think being a Division III student -athlete has helped prepare me better for life, because it forces me to work on time-management, be a team player, and also helps push me to do my best and work hard to achieve the goals I want.

3. What will you (or do you) miss the most about Alfred State/ your team?

I think that what I will miss most about soccer, is just the atmosphere, not only of playing the sport, but also the friendships and memories that are made on and off the field.

4. What life lessons have you learned from being a collegiate athlete?

Some life lessons I have learned from being a collegiate athlete are that you have to put in the work to get the outcome you want, sometimes you learn the most from the losses/failures, and if you aren't willing to work together or well with others, you aren't going to accomplish the goals you set out too.

5. What is your favorite memory so far at Alfred State?

My favorite memory at Alfred State so far is getting the sportsmanship award while leading the team with yellow cards this past season!

6. What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

Advice I would give an incoming freshman, is to never give-up. Trying to find the balance between school, sports, and life can be very difficult but if you put in the work, reach out when you are struggling, and do your best, you will succeed!
