MBB: Wildcats Drop Non-Conference Game to Alfred State.

MARCY, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly men's basketball team lost a one-point game to Alfred State on Thursday in non-conference play. The final score was 80-79. SUNY Poly is now 7-4 this season. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Poly struggled in the first half, getting down by 15 points to the Pioneers with 7:44 left in the first half. The 'Cats would cut the lead to 10 at the halftime buzzer to spark the run that would get them back in the game. SUNY Poly continued to chip into Alfred State's lead, taking control with a 9-0 run to take the lead with 8:36 left in the game. The Wildcats would extend their lead to six points before Alfred State fought back. With under three minutes left, a pair of made shots by Ryan Rosa gave Alfred the lead back at 78-77. The game came down to the last seconds with Alfred State holding a one-point lead. The Wildcats put up a pair of shots in the waning seconds of the game, but neither found the bottom of the net, giving Alfred State their fifth win of the season. 

 

NOTABLE STATISTICS: 

  • Josh Gregory had a 34 point, 10 rebound double-double in the game. He also had five assists, two steals, and a block. 

  • Jesse O'Dell had 14 points, four rebounds, and a pair of blocks. 

  • Josh Ernst had a 10 point 12 rebound double-double. It was his first career double-double. His 12 rebounds were a career-high. 

  • Basheem Wilkerson led the Pioneers with 12 points. 

  • Alfred States Josh Reding had 10 points and four assists. 

  • Josh Romero led Alfred State with nine rebounds. He also scored eight points, had four assists, and had three steals. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will host a pair of North Atlantic Conference games this weekend. On Friday, NVU-Lyndon will come to town for a 4:00 PM tip-off at the Campus Center Gym. The Wildcats will also play on Saturday, hosting Husson University.
