Baseball Falls to No. 8 Salisbury

The Alfred State baseball team lost 4-8 against the nationally ranked No. 8 Salisbury Sea Gulls in Salisbury, Maryland on Friday.

The Pioneers recorded 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 RBIs and 2 errors.

The Sea Gulls recorded 11 hits, 8 runs, 7 RBIs and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs.

Bobby Sellers (Henrietta) went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Sam Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) went 1-for-4 with 1 RBI.

What Happened:

Avallone gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead after hitting a home run to right field in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Salisbury recorded 7 runs.

In the fourth, Sellers doubled down the left field line bringing home Avallone and Nick Serce (Irondequoit).

Dickerson hit a single right up the middle plating Serce during the top of the eighth inning.

The Sea Gulls recorded one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the four-run win.

Pioneer Pitching:

Chris Baldwin (Patchogue- Medford) (L, 0-1) pitched 1.2 innings and allowed 6 hits, 7 runs, walked 1 and struck out 2.

Spencer Riehler (Lewiston, NY / Lewiston-Porter) pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 hits, 1 run, walked 2 and struck out 4.

The Pioneers will play Shenandoah at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Salisbury, Maryland.
