Pioneers Score 31 Runs Against Pitt.-Bradford, Keep Streak Alive

The Alfred State baseball team (14-15, 8-0 AMCC) recorded a combined 31 runs against the Pitt. Bradford Panthers (7-17, 0-6 AMCC) at Vets Park in Salamanca, New York Tuesday afternoon.

The Pioneers extended their win streak to 12 and remain the only undefeated team in the conference.

Game one: ASC 11, PB 0

The Pioneers recorded 12 hits, 11 runs, 10 RBIs and 0 errors.

The Panthers recorded 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 RBIs and 1 error.

Pioneer Leaders:

Nick Serce (Irondequoit) went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

Gavin Moore (Hilton) went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Owen Lansing (Lyncourt/Solvay) recorded 2 RBIs.

Elijah Barinas (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond), Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer), and Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) recorded 1 RBI.

What Happened:

The Pioneers skunked the Panthers in the first game.

During the first inning Avallone reached on a fielder's choice plating Moore.

In the third inning Serce singled to bring home Moore.

During the top of the fifth inning Serce doubled to right field bringing home Moore and Jack Curabba (Shohola, Pa/Delaware Valley). Then Serce scored on a walk.

Sam Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) popped up to second base bringing home Avallone and Lansing doubled to right center plating Mersmann and Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon).

In the seventh inning Barinas doubled to right center to bring home Dickerson and Moore singled down the right field line bringing home Lansing and Barinas.

Pioneer Pitching:

Nick Serce (W, 3-4) (Irondequoit) pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 hits, 0 runs, walked 3 and struck out 8.

Chris Baldwin (Patchogue- Medford) pitched 1 innings and allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, walked 0 and struck out 2.

Game two: ASC 20, PB 2

The Pioneers recorded 20 hits, 20 runs, 20 RBIs and 1 error.

The Panthers recorded 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 0 error.

Pioneer Leaders:

Nick Serce (Irondequoit) went 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs.

Gavin Moore (Hilton) went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs.

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs.

Jack Curabba (Shohola, Pa/Delaware Valley) and Sam Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) recorded 2 RBIs.

Dom Francavilla (Binghamton, NY/ Chenango Valley), Elijah Barinas (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond), Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon), Owen Lansing (Lyncourt/Solvay), Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer) all had 1 RBI.

What happened:

The Pioneers recorded 20 unanswered runs in game two.

In the first inning,  Avallone doubled to right field plating Curabba and Serce and Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) singled down the left field line to plate Avallone.

During the third inning the Pioneers went for eight runs.

Mersmann singled through the left side bringing home Serce and Lansing got hit by a pitch which scored Burdett.

Barinas singled, advanced to second on a throw which plated Mersmann.

Moore doubled down the left field line plating Barinas and Lansing.

Serce doubled down the right field line plating Curabba and Moore.

Avallone doubled to left center bringing home Serce.

During the fourth inning the Pioneers scored six runs.

Moore doubled to the left center plating Dickerson and Mersmann.

Curabba doubled to the left field plating Moore and Mersmann. Serce hit a home run bringing home Curabba.

During the fifth inning Dom Francavilla (Binghamton, NY/ Chenango Valley) singled to left field plating Dickerson.

During the sixth inning Dickerson doubled to center field plating Tyler Petery (Schwenksville,PA / Pope John Paul II) and Mason Gonzalez (Hamburg).

Pioneer Pitching:

Chris Catoire (W, 4-0) (Brooklyn/Fort Hamilton) pitched 4 innings and allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, walked 4 and struck out 1.

Spencer Riechier (Lewiston, NY/ Lewiston-Porter) pitched 1 innings and allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, walked 1 and struck out 2.

Christopher Mattoon (Elmira) pitched 1 innings and allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, walked 0 and struck out 2.

James Bilcik (Nanuet) pitched 1 innings and allowed 2 hits, 2runs, walked 1 and struck out 3.

The Pioneers host Hilbert in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 starting at 1 p.m.
