The Pioneers Walked Off Hilbert On The Way Too Sweeping The Series

Alfred, NY-  The Alfred State baseball team took the series against Hilbert.  The Pioneers walked off game one in the seventh 7-6 and then took game two 7-2

 

In game one, Tyler Korsky led the way going 2-4 with a homerun and a double for three RBIs. Connor Kiefer came away with two RBIs on sacrifice plays. On the mound, Ryan Kinney pitched 6.0 innings tallying six strikeouts, while only allowing two runs on two hits. Caden Fortunato came in relief and pitched 1.0 innings to pick up the win. 

 

After a couple scoreless innings, the Pioneers got on the board first. Anthony Snyder got walked to lead off the inning, he would advance to third in the next few plays before Elijah Barinas notched an RBI double to make it a 1-0 game.

 

The Hawks tied the game in their next at-bat, before the Pios regained the lead. ASC started the fourth inning with back-to-back singles from Jack Curabba and Tyler Petery. After a sacrifice bunt from Caleb Walker, an RBI fielder's choice gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. 

 

Then in the sixth, Hilbert tied the game at 2-2 before Alfred State scored two runs to reclaim the lead. Korsky led off the inning with a bomb to left field to take a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Petery doubled to left field and Walker followed with a double through the right side too put runners in scoring position. Then a sacrifice fly from Kiefer gave ASC the 4-2 lead. 

 

In the top of the seventh, the Hawks tallied four runs to take a 6-4 lead.  The Pioneers went to work in the next at-bat. Devin Mersmann led off with a single and Joshua Gardner got walked to follow. Barinas would then laid down a well-placed bunt for a single to load the bases. Korsky would tie the game at 6-6 with a two RBI double to center field. After an intentional walk, Petery notched a walk off RBI single toward s the short stop for the 7-6 win. 

 

In game two,   Jon White picked up the win as he pitched a complete 9.0 inning game. He only allowed two runs on five hits, with three strikeouts. Gardner added two doubles and two RBIs, while Barinas and Curabba notched two RBIs each.

In the first, Gardner led off with a single to right field, then two batters later, Korsky hit a double to left field. Curabba would get the Pioneers on the board first with an RBI sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead. 

 

Later in the second, ASC added two runs to their lead. With one out, Aidan Murphy got walked, and advanced to second on a ground out. Gardner would then put in an RBI double to center field for the 2-0 lead. Then Barinas followed with an RBI single as Murphy came around to score to make it a 3-0 game.  

 

The Pioneers added three runs to their lead in the bottom of the seventh. Mersmann led off with a single to right field, then stole second a few pitches later. A Gardner single put runners on the corners, and Mersmann scored on an error. Two batters later, Curabba notched an RBI single to right field for the 5-0 lead. Then with a runner on third Petery laid down an RBI sacrifice bunt to take a 6-0 lead.

 

The Hawks got on the board with two run the Pios answered with a run in the eighth. With one out, Mersmann notched a single then stole second a few pitches later. Gardner followed with an RBI double down the left field line for the 7-2 lead. Then Pioneers would hold on to win.
