Football Five: Alfred State Takes on the Giants

Alfred State continues ECFC play with a trip to Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. 

  • Meeting History: 2nd meeting between the two schools but first as ECFC opponents. Alfred State won the first meeting in 2019, 34-13
  • Last Game: Alfred State rallied for a 24-21 victory over Gallaudet while Keystone fell 41-0 to Castleton.
  • Dawson Fontaine connected on a 18-yard field goal with 1:25 left to lift Alfred State to a big 24-21 ECFC victory over previously unbeaten Gallaudet. The Pioneers scored the final 10 points of the game. Aaron Jenkins was 14 for 25 for 223 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for 105 yards on 18 carries. Roman Napoleon caught six passes for 132 yards and the game tying score in the 4th quarter. Te'Hari Campbell led the defense with 12 tackles. Joel Smith and Silas Egenlauf both chipped in 10 tackles while Jeremiah Nixon finished with 9. Smith recorded the lone sack of the game.   • Following a scoreless first quarter, the Spartans scored 27 points in the second quarter and 14 more points in the second half. Castleton outrushed Keystone 217-4 and picked off the Giants three times. Mujaheed Muhammad had 17 carries for 37 yards while Christopher Diaz hauled in three receptions for 43 yards. Defensively, 15 players had three or more tackles, as Sean TocciJerrel Springer and Ali Mendoza all finished with six apiece. Full Game Story

  • Game Notes:
    • The Pioneers got production from both sides of the offense. They passed for 223 yards and rushed for 120. 
    • Aaron Jenkins now rushed for eight scores and 567 yards and has passed for 1,456 yards and 10 scores on the year.
    • Jake Palmer is now averaging 3.7 yards per carry and has 363 total yards on the year.
    • Three Pioneers have over 20 catches on the year. Shy'rel Broadwater has 27 for 562 yards, Roman Napoleon has 22 for 439, nad Ben Ba has 22 for 267 yards.
    • The defensive front was challenged last week by Gallaudet's triple-option but held their ground in the final 19 minutes of the game and kept the Bison off the board. Te'Hari Campbell had a big day with 12 tackles and now has 28 on the year. Joel Smith leads the team with 63 tackles while Brock Weist has 30 tackles and a team high four sacks.
    • Mujaheed Muhammad is 3rd in the ECFC with an average of 64.4 yard rushing per game. Along with Kevin Lewis the duo has combined for 11 scores and 735 yards on the ground.
    • Sean Tocci and Jerrel Springer have combined for 109 tackles on the season.
    • Opponents have outscored Keystone 343 to 127 on the year.
    • Keystone is a minus -7 in the turnover battle. They have thrown nine interceptions and and lost eight fumbles. They have picked off four passes and recoverd six fumbles.
