Fast Five: Alfred State Heads to Dean for Regular Season Finale

Alfred State travels to Franklin, MA to take on Dean in the 2021 regular season finale. The Pioneers sit tied for the top spot in the ECFC entering the final week.

• Meeting History: This the 21st meeting between the two NJCAA rivals. Dean leads the series 18-2. The Bulldogs won the last match-up in 2019, 50-46.
• Last Game: Alfred State stayed in the postseason chase with a 35-24 victory over Castleton in their home finale. Dean had last weekend off but fell 31-27 to Maritime in their last contest. 
  • Alfred State never trailed as they defeated Castleton last weekend. The Pioneers scored 5:54 into the game, led 13-3 at half, and 19-10 after three quarters. Aaron Jenkins finished the day 16 for 29 for 359 yards and two scores. He also rushed 24 times for 69 yards and two scores. Shy'rel Broadwater caught two passes for a team high 103 yards while Ben Ba finished with six catches for 91 yards and a score. Roman Napoleon caught two passes for 88 yards. Dakotah Mathis led the defense with 13 tackles while Jeremiah Nixon had eight stops. Joel Smith had seven stops, a sack, and a fumble recovery, Rylie Van Fleet had seven tackles to go with an interception, and Te'Hari Campbell and Nuhsar Mike each had seven stops and a sack. Full game story
  • Maritime scored 10 unanswered points to break a 21-21 tie en route to the victory over Dean. David Curry finished 11-30 for 192 yards, two touchdowns and an interception vs. Maritime. He added 95 yards on the ground and a score. Ki'sean Bullard rushed eight times for 34 yards and a touchdown. Quintus Reid caught five balls for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Desmond Dias posted a game best 14 tackles and added a half sack to lead the Bulldogs. Tyzohn Poole registered nine tackles and forced a fumble, while Dre Kidd added nine tackles. Full Game Story
• Game Notes:
  • Alfred State is in a tie with Anna Maria for the top spot in the ECFC. Both teams are 4-1 in conference play. An Anna Maria wins gives the AMCATS the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament while an Anna Maria loss along with an Alfred State win sends the Pioneers to the NCAA postseason.
  • The Pioneers have won five of their last six games after starting the season 0-3.
  • Aaron Jenkins went back to the air in last week's victory. He threw for 359 yards and two scores. He has passed for 1,941 yards and 12 scores on the year. Shy'rel Broadwater leads the team with 678 yards while Ben Ba leads the team with 32 receptions (409 yards). The Pioneers are averaging 16.4 yards per catch.
  • Jenkins is closing in on 800 yards rushing on the year as well. He has 174 attempts for 758 yards and 13 scores.
  • The defense came up big multiple times last week. They intercepted a pass, forced and recovered a fumble, and held the Spartans all four times on 4th down.
  • Nuhsar Mike has come on as of late. He now has 51 total tackles and four sacks. Joel Smith continues to have a solid season leading the team with 70 tackles while Silas Egenlauf has 63.
  • David Curry has weapons in the passing game. He has passed for 2,342 yards and 16 scores. His favorite target is Errol Breaux who has 66 catches for 1,042 yards and seven scores.
  • Curry leads the rushing attack for Dean with 541 yards and six scores.
  • The duo of Dre Kidd and Desmond Dias lead the Bulldogs defense. Kidd has 72 stops and three interceptions while Dias has 69 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
  • Alfred State has played Dean the most of any other school since football started at ASC in 1995.
