Two Straight for Pioneers

The Alfred State men's basketball team made it two straight as they defeated Penn College 77-71 on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers outscored the Wildcats 50-42 in the 2nd half.

Penn College led early and held their largest lead of the game 12-4 early on. The Pioneers fought back and trailed by two, 29-27, at halftime. The game was tied at 37-37 with 16:37 before the blue & gold outscored the Wildcats 20-12 in the next eight minutes to take control of the game. PC came within two points but never could tie the game.

The Pioneers outscored the Wildcats bench 48 to 16 in the game. Alfred State's Dante Jordan (New York/Law and Public Service), Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy), and Quadrelle Roberts (Rochester/Franklin) accounted for 37 of the bench points. Jordan finished with 13 points and six boards, Edwards chipped in 13, and Roberts connected on three 3-pointers and finished with 11.

Christopher Padron (Bronx/Motthaven) led the starting five with nine points while Robbie Adams (Jasper Troupsburg) had eight. The Pioneers shot 45.9% from the field, hit five of 19 three point attempts, and shot 53.3% (16-30) from the line.

Kevin Laurence-El led Penn College with 26 points while Thomas Ross had a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. The Wildcats shot 41.1% from the field, was 2 for 20 from three, and hit 71.9% (23-32) from the foul line.

Alfred State will look to continue their recent success as they host Maine-Fort Kent on Sunday at Noon.
