Pioneers Predicted to Finish 8th in AMCC Pre-Season Poll

The Alfred State men's basketball team will return to the court for the first time since February 2020 next week. Today, the team was predicted to finish 8th in the AMCC Pre-Season Coaches Poll.

La Roche is predicted to finish 1st followed by Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Greensburg, Penn State Altoona, Medaille, Hilbert, Mount Aloysius. Alfred State is 8th followed by Pitt-Bradford. Behrend senior guard Kenny Fukon was named the AMCC Pre-Season Player of the Year.

The 2021-22 season will be the second full year that Alfred State has competed in the AMCC. The 2019-20 team was 7-18 overall and 5-15 vs. AMCC opponents while the 2020-21 season was limited to just a few exhibition games due to COVID. Jerry Jusianiec begins his 22nd season lead the Pioneers and has a roster that has a mix of returning players and newcomers. Josh Reding (Spencerport) appeared in all 25 games in 2019-20 and avearged 13.7 points and passed out four assists per game while Paris Jamiston (Brooklyn/East Side Community) averaged 3.9 points per game and passed out 23 assists and was credited with 15 steals.

The Pioneers will open up their 25-game schedule on Tuesday (11/9) with a trip to RIT. The home opener is a couple days later when they entertain Ithaca (11/13) at 4 p.m.
