Pioneers Tame the Wildcats

Alfred State won their second straight and improved to 3-2 on the season with a tight 68-63 victory over Cazenovia on day one of the Route 20 Classic.

The Pioneers led 38-32 at the half. The second half remained tight. Cazenovia tied it at 41-41 and held a 48-46 lead. Alfred State took a 59-55 lead with just over two minutes left and hit 9 of 12 foul shots down stretch to seal the victory. Josh Reding (Spencerport) was 6 for 6.

Reding led all scorers with 21 points. He also pulled down six boards. Tavion Williams (Bronx/FDA) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards while Paris Jamison (Brooklyn/East Side Community) added seven.

Alfred State was 24 for 63 from the field, 5 for 19 from three, and 15 for 27 from the line. The Pioneers also forced the Wildcats into 20 turnovers.

Kobe Bogart led Cazenovia with 15 points while Amoni Clarke finished with 13. The Wildcats were 25 for 69 from the field, 6 for 23 from three, and 7 for 10 from the line in the contest.

The Pioneers head to Morrisville for day two of the Route 20 Classic on Sunday. They take on the Mustangs at 3 p.m. Morrisville defeated SUNY ESF 82-59 in the earlier game.
