Men’s basketball drops thriller to Pitt. Bradford

The Alfred State men's basketball team fell to Pitt. Bradford 97-96 in a thrilling down to the wire game Wednesday evening inside Orvis Activities Center.

Josh Reding (Spencerport) led the Pioneers with 21 points, Josh Romero (Bronx/Theodore Roosevelt) recorded 19 points with seven assists, Basheem Wilkerson (Brooklyn/John Jay) had 12 points and Isaiah Kostyal (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) added 11 points.

Pitt. Bradford (5-3, 1-0 AMCC) out-rebounded Alfred State (3-5, 0-2 AMCC) 44-35 and recorded a 54.7 free throw percentage compared to the Pioneers 47.9.

Isaiah Archie scored 33 points for the Panthers, Gus Napoleon had 15 and both Nathan Schneider and Caden Beldin had 11.

The lead changed 11 times in the first half before Pitt. Bradford held onto it and went into halftime up 38-32.

The Pioneers out-scored the Panthers 64-59 in the second half and trailed by two in the final seconds.

With one third of a second left in the game Romero was fouled behind the arc and was granted three free throws. Unfortunately, he went 1-for-3 and the Pioneers took the one point loss.

Alfred State is on the road Saturday, Dec. 11 to play Mt. Aloysius in a conference game at 4 p.m.
