Three Pioneers Score in Double Digits in Hilbert Loss
Three Alfred State men's basketball players scored in double digits in the Pioneers 94-73 road loss to the Hilbert College Hawks Wednesday evening.
The Pioneers move to 8-11 overall and 4-7 in the AMCC while the Hawks improve to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
Alfred State shot 38.8% in field goals, 61.5% in free throws, picked up 33 rebounds, recorded 17 assists and scored 25 points off the Hawks 22 turnovers.
Hilbert shot 50% in field goals, 69.4% in free throws and had 50 rebounds.
Josh Reding (Spencerport) led the team with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Basheem Wilkerson (Brooklyn/John Jay) added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists while Paris Jamison (Brooklyn/East Side Community) chipped in 11 points.
Mekhi Belcher (Syracuse/Union Endicott) had eight points and five rebounds and Tavion Williams (Bronx/FDA) had seven points, three rebounds and two steals.
Hilbert started the game with an eight-point run and the Pioneers retaliated with a seven-point spree of their own.
The Hawks extended their lead to 11-points with a ten-point run and had a 15-point advantage with 11:51 remaining in the first.
The Pioneers tied the game 32-32 with 4:56 left on the clock but Hilbert out-scored Alfred State 14-6 in the remaining minutes to head into halftime up 46-38.
Alfred State came within one-point of the lead with 12:15 left on the clock but the Hawks took a 15-point edge three minutes later after a 12-point spree and extended their lead to 21 by the end of the game.
The men are on the road Saturday, Feb. 5 to play AMCC opponent Penn State-Altoona at 4 p.m.
