Four Pioneers Score in Double Digits in La Roche Loss on Senior Day
Four Pioneers scored in double digits in the Alfred State men's basketball 100-90 loss to the La Roche University Redhawks on Saturday evening inside Orvis Gymnasium.
The Pioneers move to 8-14 overall and 4-10 in the AMCC while the Redhawks improve to 11-11 overall and 8-5 in the conference.
Before the game the Pioneers honored their four seniors; Josh Reding (Spencerport), Josh Romero (Bronx/Theodore Roosevelt), Tavion Williams (Bronx/FDA), and Donte Jones (Brooklyn/ Brooklyn Collegiate) in a ceremony.
Alfred State shot 52.2% in field goals, 35.5% in three-pointers, 51.9% in free throws and picked up 31 rebounds.
La Roche recorded 50% in field goals, 42.1% in three-pointers, 76.2% in free throws and had 41 rebounds.
Reding led the Pioneers with a season-high of 23 point and had six assists. Jones chipped in 17 points and four rebounds.
Basheem Wilkerson (Brooklyn/John Jay) added 13 points, had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Paris Jamison (Brooklyn/East Side Community) scored 10 points, Tavion Williams (Bronx/FDA) had eight and Romero added six points, five assists and two steals.
The game was tied two times and the lead changed 14 times.
The Pioneers had a nine-point lead with seven minutes left in the first half before the Redhawks went on an 11-point run to take the lead.
Alfred State got the lead back with a three-pointer and a layup but La Roche took it again with four free throws and a three-pointer and took a 46-41 edge heading into halftime.
The Redhawks started the second half with an eight-point run to take a 13-point advantage and the Pioneers were able to cut it to 10-points by the end of the game.
The men are back home Wednesday, Feb. 16 to host AMCC opponent Medaille at 7:30 p.m.
