Pioneers Drop A Close Contest To Hilbert

Hamburg, NY- The Alfred State men's basketball team came up short in the conference opener against Hilbert, 75-71. The Pioneers move to 2-5 on the season.

Michael Miller led the team in scoring with 19 points. He shot 5-9 from behind the arch. Cody Schneider tallied another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Paris Jamison also added 16 points and five rebounds. Both Dylan Perry and Ryan Rosa came away with seven points each.

Jamison and Schneider got the offense going with layups. Miller would follow with his first three of the game for the 7-4 lead. The Pioneers then capitalized on back-to-back turnovers with two layups to take the 11-4 lead. Hilbert went on a run of their own to take a 21-19 lead. Perry answered with a three to regain the lead. A few possessions later, Schneider hit a three of his own to tie the game at 25-25. Both teams would go bucket for bucket from there, with the Pioneers taking a 38-37 lead into half.

Perry and Schneider opened the second half for the Pioneers with back-to-back jumpers for the 42-39 lead. ASC would then get two fast breaks layups to extend their lead to 47-41. After a scoreless two minutes, Perry would hit a jump shot and Avery Cunningham added a layup of his own for the 51-41 lead. From there, the Hawks worked their way back into the game and tied it 67-67 with 1:49 left in the game. After a Jamison free throw, the Hawks made a layup to take a 68-67 lead. They would add four points to their lead from free throws before Miller knocked down a contested corner three to cut the deficit to 73-71. The Hawks would hold off the Pioneers to secure the win
