Pioneers Drop Nailbiter In Alfred

Alfred, NY – The Alfred State men's basketball team drop game to Penn St. Behrend, 78-76. The Pioneers are 13-11 overall and 11-6 in conference play. 

Cody Schneider led the way for the Pioneers with 23 points and nine rebounds. Michael Miller finished with 22 points and five assists and Paris Jamison chipped in 12 points. 

Jamison got the Pioneers started with a layup to begin the game. A jumper from Schneider gave Alfred State a 19-15 lead with 10:56 remaining in the first half. The Pioneers took a nine-point lead, 26-17, with 7:58 remaining after a three-pointer from Miller. The Lions inched at the Pioneers' lead, and they found themselves within one, 30-29, with 2:40 left. The Pioneers held a 34-29 lead at halftime. 

A layup from Schneider started the second half for Alfred State. Another three-pointer from Miller put the Pioneers up 43-36 and then the Lions proceeded to go on a 12-0 run, and they now lead 48-43 with 14:13 left in the game. Alfred State responded with a quick 8-0 run of their own and they led 51-48 with 12:10 left. Following a Lions timeout, they went on a 15-2 run to put them up 63-53. The Pioneers continued to pick at the Lions lead and they found themselves down one, 72-71, following a three-pointer from Schneider with 2:34 remaining. The next possession, a jumper by Jamison put the Pioneers up one. Two pairs of free throws and a layup by the Lions gave them a 78-73 lead late in the game. Schneider connected on a three-pointer at the buzzer, but the Pioneers fell short 78-76. The Pioneers drop the season series against Penn St. Behrend 0-2. 

The Pioneers are back in action for Senior Day on Saturday, February 17th as they host the Celtics of Carlow University.
