Alfred, NY- In tonight's highly anticipated match Pioneers notched seventh win of the season against neighbor Alfred University, 2-1. Alfred State is now 7-1 on the season.
Jackson Powers and Garrett Potts scored both ASC goals, while Jack Leahy assisted on both goals. Thaddeus Grierson had a good game in the goal, as he tallied five saves.
Alfred State started the game on the attack, with Potts finding space in the box for a shot that was saved. A few moments later, J. Leahy found Powers for the game's first goal and the 1-0 lead. Later in the 25th minute, Potts found the net for what turned out to be the game winning goal and put Alfred State up 2-0.
The Saxons was able to score a goal later in the first half to cut their deficit down to 2-1.
In the second half, Alfred University would control possession as the Pioneers had to play a man down for close to 40 minutes. A-State was able to keep the Saxons at bay to hold on and win 2-1.
The Pioneers will head to Mt. Aloysius on Saturday September 23rd for their conference opener at 4:15 pm.
