Six Pioneers Run to All-AMCC Honors, Giagios Named Coach the Year

After a strong 2nd place showing at the AMCC Cross Country Championship on Sunday, six Alfred State student-athletes have earned All-AMCC honors. First year cross country coach Tim Giagios was also named the AMCC men's Coach of the Year.

Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) was named the AMCC Runner of the Year after winning the individual title on the 5k course outside of Pittsburgh, PA on Sunday. He improved on his 10th place finish at the 2019 AMCC Championships by winning by just over seven seconds with a time of 18:29.06.

Ryan Lohr (West Seneca) who was racing after returning from an injury plagued 2019 season finished 4th in 19:12.84. Cameron Chambers (East Rochester) was 8th in 20:22.23, Cooper Buckley (Wellsville) was 9th in 20:31.50, Brian Clark (Bethpage) finished in 10th in 20:48.45), and Nikolas DiDomenico (Fairport) finished 15th (22:14.76). 

Alfred State and Penn State Behrend each had six members of their team on the All-Conference team while La Roche had three earn AMCC honors.

Coach Giagios took over the cross country and track & field program at Alfred State in January 2020 and this was his first race cross country event leading the blue & gold. He trained the team and the Pioneers finished 2nd in the team standing with 32 points, just nine points behind the overall winning team Penn State Behrend. This was the first cross country race for any of the Pioneers since November 2019.
