Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) collected five hits as Alfred State battled Penn State Behrend on a chilly Tuesday afternoon. The Lions took both games 9-1 and 14-1.
Penn State Behrend got on the board in the 1st but the Pioneers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) hit a RBI double to score Sarah Boyce (Cortland) who led off the game with a walk. The Lions took the lead for good with a run in the 3rd, two more in the 3rd, and put the game out of reach with five in the 6th.
Wonica finished game one 3 for 3 with a double.
In the nightcap, the Lions scored three in the 1st before the Pioneers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Wonica hit a RBI double to score Audrey Farrell (York/Notre Dame). Farrell had doubled one batter earlier. Penn State Behrend's offense scored three more in the 3rd, one in the 4th and 5th, and put the game out of reach with six in the 6th.
Wonica was 2 for 3 with a RBI and Farrell finished 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored.
The Pioneers head to the Pittsburgh, PA area on the weekend for a pair of AMCC doubleheaders. They take on LaRoche on Saturday and Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday.
